Does adding a password to a PDF in Zurapic reduce its quality?
Short answer: no. Zurapic wraps the existing PDF content in AES encryption without re-rendering, recompressing, or rasterizing a single page — text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.
Why some tools do lose quality
Some older or free PDF tools protect a file by flattening every page into a JPEG image first, then locking the result. That's what causes text to look blurry or fuzzy after “protecting” a PDF elsewhere — the protection step itself rasterized the page.

- Encryption is applied directly to the PDF's byte streams — vector text and embedded images are left untouched.
- To verify, try selecting text in the protected file: if it highlights normally like regular PDF text, nothing was flattened.
